Winnipeg Jets Grades: Defence/Goaltending

The following content has been paraphrased from Saturday's Illegal Curve Hockey Show, where we graded the 2013 performance of individual Winnipeg Jets' players. Download the podcast here or subscribe to the Illegal Curve Hockey Show on iTunes.

Richard: I thought he was solid when he played, but not great. Offensively he flourished at the beginning of the year leading the defensemen in points early on. The reason he gets a B is because his defensive game is lacking. I don't think he has played well enough as a defender to merit anything above a B.

Richard: I have high expectations for Dustin Byfuglien and I think he let his weight get away from him. Everything he does on the offensive side, he gives it back on the defensive side. That was consistent throughout the year. He's capable of more, the talent and natural ability are there but lacks the focus to play defensively.

Ezra (B): He didn't produce as many points as last season and his defensive play really struggled toward the end of the season. Byfuglien is a highly skilled player who needs to show more commitment to the team.

Richard: He played a majority of the season with Bogosian, some of the credit of Bogosian's year has to go to his partner Ron Hainsey. Does he score? No. But in reality he's not asked to score. Some decision making isn't the strongest and he's not the most physical. He played more minutes than they wanted to and filled a role.

Ezra – He lead the league in blocked shots, played a shutdown role and is more offensive minded than the type of defensemen he is.

Richard: He really took some steps forward this year, plays big minutes in all situations. He's a horse; he likes to pressure, likes to drop the gloves and took more of a leadership role. His offensive game took some steps forward in terms of getting involved in the play.

Ezra: Took a step forward, is part of the long term future of the Winnipeg Jets. He has great skating ability, got more physical this year.

Richard: He exceeded my expectations, produced offensively. Played in all situations. He seemed to flourish near the end. There were some defensive deficiencies. His issues are size and sometimes he turns the puck over. He can skate and has a good shot. He is a useful player and it will be interesting to see the contract he signs for next season.

Ezra: Stepped up and played increased minutes this season. He's not the biggest guy but is strong. Sometimes makes costly turnovers in the defensive zone. Is better suited as a third pairing guy.

Richard: He is what he is. He's a third pairing defensemen. He played with everyone on the team. You want him to play a physical style and be a leader. Wasn't his best defensive year. What you got from him is what you expected. No complaints here.

Ezra: He only had four points, you'd like to see more, but he was +5 and was among league leaders in hits. Has limited offensive ability but makes the smart decision with the puck in his own zone.

Richard: I would have liked to see more offensively, there was some opportunity with the injuries. His strength is his offensive play. He certainly made some problems defensively and turning over the puck. Settled down as the season went on. He is what he is, will top out as a bottom pairing.

Ezra: He's a good skater but isn't physical. Makes mistakes in his own end. Could have provided a bit more offensively.

Richard: My expectations for him were higher than Postma based on what we had heard from the IceCaps organization. He didn't blow me away but was solid. He does have a few drawbacks, but was a nice surprise for the Jets in terms of defensive depth.

Richard: I think he's a starter but not an exceptional NHL goaltender. He's probably around the 20th ranked goalie in the league right now. Put him behind better defensemen and his numbers may be higher. He was solid this year and deserves a B.

Ezra (A) – He faced the 2nd most shots in the NHL to Ryan Miller. Said in his exit interviews that he has to improve his conditioning. He proved that he has the mental toughness to be a number one goalie. Had a better year than last year and wants to get better.

Richard: He started five games. He hardly played and was solid when he did play. Hard to make a definitive decision.

Harry Tebow Turns To Proverbs After Launch From Jets

Bernard Tebow, always one to give credit to Jesus Christ, obviously went right to his religion upon his discharge from the Jets early Monday. The Jets declared they waived Tebow Monday morning after he arrived to the complex for phase two of the Jetsa offseason system. WWE: Why Turning Ryback Heel Is a Good Idea, but Done Too Soon

There's no question that Ryback can be a monster heel. He's a gargantuan man that hulks above just about everybody in the WWE. He's got a great menacing promo style with his gravelly voice and his ability to, well, be menacing. But did they turn him too soon?

The WWE wanted to get Ryback in a feud with John Cena, but as we've seen in the past, they're not too fond of face vs. face feuds. So, they gave him a bit of an edge, walking out on the biggest face in the business today.

His heel promo on Raw two weeks ago was strong and angry, which is very fitting for a monster heel. But, wasn't Ryback just beginning to get some momentum as a face? Wasn't he finally receiving a legitimate fan following?

The idea of turning Ryback heel is a good one, but the timing stinks. The build toward a Ryback vs. John Cena match could have been dragged out for a much longer time.

For those of you over 30, the Randy Savage vs. Hulk Hogan build was remarkably slow. The seeds were planted, but each time you thought they'd feud, they made up and were friends again. By the time Savage turned, we were frothing at the mouth wanting it to happen.

The WWE missed the boat on this one. They could have followed a similar path for Ryback and Cena. They could have teamed up together to fend off The Shield and anyone else in their paths.

Cena could have failed to help Ryback on various occasions, but instead of Ryback instantly snapping, he could have slowly began losing faith in Cena as his friend.

One thing of note is Ryback's use of "Super Cena." Is the WWE giving the smart fans the middle finger? Are they really going to feed Ryback to Cena, just to make the Cena haters upset?

It's too late now, as Ryback and Cena will face off for the WWE Championship in less than a month. They could have dragged this to SummerSlam. Instead, Ryback is getting thrust into a title program prematurely.

Without giving the fans proper time to get emotionally invested, they're not going to give their match the respect and reaction it deserves.

Their 20th league title was claimed by manchester United after an emphatic first half screen against Aston Villa, by which their very own No. 20, Robin van Persie, excelled. Yvette Prieto and Michael Jordan Wedding: Guests, Images and Details

When you are arguably the greatest basketball player of all time, it's difficult to travel under the radar. Basketball star and present Charlotte Bobcats manager Jordan tied the knot with original partner Yvette Prieto on Saturday in Palm Beach, Fla., according to People.com's Jennifer Garcia. The event was held at the Bethesda-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, and included around 500 visitors including several other former NBA stars (photo via NBA.SI.com ): There have been lots of friends and celebrities available (via ETonline.com) to guide Jordan and his lady this week-end. Significant participants included Jordan's former Chicago Bulls teammate Scottie Pippen, Jordan's mother, former New York Knicks superstar Patrick Ewing and well-known directorASpike Lee, amongst others (photo via NBA.SI.com ): Here is a look at some closer shots of Pippen and Ewing, who along side Jordan performed in some of the very remarkable playoff series during the 1990s, when Bulls-Knicks was arguably the very best rivalry in baseball (photos via HuffingtonPost.com ): Fourteen-time significant champion Padraig Harrington was also on hand this weekend (photograph via @KVJShow from TMZ ): In accordance with Michele Dargan of the Palm Beach Daily News, guests began coming to the church around 3 p.m. ET, an hour or so prior to the marriage ceremony started at approximately 4:15 p.m. ET. The ceremony within the church lasted about an hour as bells apparently rang out soon after 5 p.m. ET, based on Dargan. Shiny Sheet on Twitter placed a few photographs of men and women as they entered the church on Saturday: Here is a look at the bridesmaids on the way to the church: Not that you could see her in this photograph, but this flock of umbrellas is apparently covering the woman before she joined the church for Saturday's ceremony: A level bigger crowd of an estimated 2,000 people gathered at the Bear's Club, a course area in Jupiter, Fla., for the party under an enormous, state-of-the-art wedding tent (picture via LarryBrownSports.com ): The reception was held maybe not far from Jordan's 38,000-square-foot home. Based on Garcia, the 50-year-old Jordan met the 35-year-old Prieto at a Miami bar five years ago and proposed to her in late 2011. Given the Bobcats' challenges on the wood in recent times, it is safe to state that weekend's service and subsequent celebration was a welcomed diversion for Jordan going into still another tough offseason. For the time being, however, baseball could wait. All the best to Jordan and his new wife. Follow Bleacher Statement Highlighted Author Patrick Clarke on Twitter.

Police give heat bulbs arrested from pot plants to Notts County

In a make an effort to turn equipment confiscated by police to appropriate use, heat lamps will be used by League One club Notts County taken from cannabis plants to develop grass. These heat lamps were taken by police in raids on the area marijuana farms which became marijuana. Now, these lamps will undoubtedly be used to develop completely appropriate lawn at the Meadow Lane Stadium. Today the Meadow Lane grass will stay green in winters as well Created a 151 years ago, Notts County could be the oldest soccer team in the world. The last time they played in the top level of English football was in 1991-92, before the inception of the Premier League. In the 21st century, the membership has experienced numerous financial issues and has seen several owners come and go. A spokesman for Notts County stated that the police had given the bulbs to the team rather than being crushed as originally designed. Students from the Nottingham University are designing and building wheeled stations to accommodate the lamps and by enough time next winter comes, they must be ready. Arena boss, Greg Smith, said that the light stations will help the grass grow even through the harsh rigours of cold temperatures. Johnson told BBC: aNormally to purchase one rig you are looking at between A10,000 and A15,000. aWe have both activities at the football, club and rugby, and weave got a main stand that doesnat allow the light in throughout the winter. aSo, we are able to ask them to from the beginning of October through to the end of February, ideally growing grass for us.a The membership has made a gift to a nearby charity supported by the team, to show their gratitude to the Nottinghamshire Police for the lights. Police Superintendent Mark Holland thought it had been a win-win situation for many involved. He also said: aThis property would usually be killed, so it's important it gets recycled and lots of people are having the benefit from it.a

NBA Playoffs 2013: Top Storylines Heading into Sunday's Action

The first round of the 2013 NBA playoffs could be over for a number of teams on Sunday, as three potential elimination games will be played throughout the day. Of course, with the postseason beginning just over a week ago, it's obvious we're talking about sweeps.

The Miami Heat have a chance to knock out the Milwaukee Bucks and the New York Knicks are on the verge of eliminating the rival Boston Celtics, while the San Antonio Spurs can finish off the Los Angeles Lakers.

Those are the top storylines heading into Sunday's NBA action, so keep reading to dive deep into each series and then check out which players must step up—especially in the competitive Golden State Warriors vs. Denver Nuggets series.

The Knickerbockers felt the sting of a sweep back in 2011, when the C's sent them packing just four games into their triumphant return to the postseason. They improved upon that by stealing a game against the Miami Heat last year and now have a chance to advance to the second round.

This would be the first conference semifinals appearance for New York since the 2000 season, when the team lost in six games in the Eastern Conference finals.

There's a good chance the Knicks advance on Sunday afternoon, as they have been able to hold the Celts to an average of 75.0 points per game in this series and have rallied behind Carmelo Anthony.

New York will have to try and win one without Sixth Man of the Year and second-banana scorer J.R. Smith, but should be able to get the job done on the back of its defense.

Brandon Jennings may have said the Bucks would win in six, but LeBron James and Dwyane Wade's actions say the Heat are winning in four.

In Game 3's win, Ray Allen came off the pine for 30 solid minutes and scored 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting (5-of-8 from three-point land), while also grabbing three boards and dishing two assists.

Along with the "Birdman," Chris Andersen, who had 11 points on 5-of-5 shooting and six rebounds in that contest, it seems Miami has found two players who will be integral to their shortened rotation this spring.

Don't be surprised when the Heat silence the crowd at the Bradley Center and start preparing for their next opponent.

Game 3 certainly told the story, as the Lakers suffered an embarrassing loss in front of their fans at the Staples Center. This squad just doesn't have the skill or perimeter production to hang with San Antonio, especially without Kobe Bryant in the lineup.

It's going to be a long offseason in L.A., as the front office has to figure out if Dwight Howard can be the man to lead this team back to greatness while also rebuilding the roster.

Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and the rest of the Spurs should take care of business on Sunday and allow the Lakers and their supporters to start thinking about those offseason adjustments a bit early.

Through three first-round playoff contests, his numbers appear to be good enough—20.3 points on 60 percent shooting, 11.7 rebounds, 2.7 locks, 1.0 assist per game—but the team just hasn't been able to win.

Whether that is a testament to the greatness of the Spurs or the awful performances of his teammates is up to you to decide, but it's worth noting that the Lakers suffered their worst home playoff loss in franchise history in Game 3.

Even when he was surrounded by teammates that "nobody wanted," Superman was able to put them on his back and win games. He hasn't shown that ability in L.A., so Game 4 may be his last as a Laker.

It hasn't worked out for either party and, as an unrestricted free agent this summer, Howard could head for greener pastures.

With David Lee out for the remainder of the playoffs, it's up to the injury-plagued Bogut to step up and play reliable minutes in the Warriors frontcourt.

Through the first three games of the series, he's done exactly that—posting 7.0 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.0 steals per contest—but has to show flashes on the offensive end.

The Warriors aren't going to beat the Nuggets solely with their guard play, meaning Bogut is going to have to fight for position down low and display what made him nearly a 16-point per game scorer during his 2010 campaign in Milwaukee.

Besides that, Bogut's defense and rim-protection have been top-notch, so Golden State can feel comfortable that the paint is safe when the big man is on the floor.

Lawson has clearly listened to the talk about Denver being one superstar away from contending and decided to take matters into his own hands.

During the playoffs, he's stepped up in a big way and is now averaging 22.0 points, 8.7 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game, while taking all the big shots for the Nuggets.

If he's truly going to rise up and become "the man" for this organization, he has to will the Nuggets to a win in a pivotal Game 4 on Sunday evening.

NHL Playoff Matchups 2013: Wearing Down Each European Convention Collection

The 2013 NHL playoffs are almost upon us (Tuesday, April 30), and the pleasure about the Western Conference's first-round matchups are the talk of the hockey community. From perennial challengers like the Chicago Blackhawks and the Vancouver Canucks to underdogs with an opportunity to take the show like the Detroit Red Wings and the San Jose Sharks, this postseason is shaping around be crazy. Each one of the following marquee matchups makes the 2013 Western Conference playoffs some of the most exciting NHL games tennis fans will dsicover all season. No. 1 Chicago Blackhawks versus. No. 8 Minnesota Wild The Chicago Blackhawks (36-7-5) enter into this first-round line as the large favorites against the Minnesota Wild (26-19-3), but this game will be a good gauge of how well the No. 1 overall seed can accomplish this postseason. Minnesota isnat a serious competitor in the Western Conference playoffs, however the defensive system of the Wild can give the Blackhawks suits when they donat get their opponents seriously. Chicago must emerge burning. The Blackhawks have their own superior security (first in the NHL allowing only two goals per game), and combined with score of Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews, Chicago has the clear advantage in this opening round. Prediction: Chicago over Minnesota, 4-1. No. 2 Anaheim Ducks compared to. No. 7 Detroit Red Wings While immense credit is deserved by the Detroit Red Wings ( 24-16-8 ) for making the late surge to grab an area in the playoffs for the 22nd straight year, the Anaheim Ducks (30-12-6) are the group on paper and on the snow. Detroit continues to be one of the toughest defensive groups in the league (fifth in the NHL with 2.3 goals permitted per game), but the potent Anaheim offense (eighth in the league with 2.8 goals per game and fourth with a power-play portion of 21.5) can push the Red Wings beyond their limits. Led by the elite group of Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry and Bobby Ryan, the Ducks have become one of the most consistent unpleasant squads in the Western Conference and should have no problem developing past Detroit into Round 2. Prediction: Anaheim over Detroit, 4-3. No. 3 Vancouver Canucks versus. No. 6 San Jose Sharks The absolute most exciting game of the Western Conferenceas first round could be the fight involving the Vancouver Canucks (26-15-7) and the San Jose Sharks (25-16-7). The Sharks and Canucks are extremely similar in size, group makeup and research ninth and (sixth respectively in targets allowed and both rank in the top-10 for penalty-kill portion). The sole big difference could be the power-play models. Vancouver and San Jose both struggle offensivelya'19th and 24th respectively in ambitions per recreation this seasona'but the Sharks' very powerful energy play ranks seventh in the league at a 20.1 % success rate. Led by unpleasant and captain head Joe Thornton (40 items in 2013), San Jose can take this series in spectacular fashion and send the Canucks house with a first-round annoyed. Prediction: San Jose over Vancouver, 4-3. No. 4 St. Louis Blues vs. No. 5 L. A. Kings The Los Angeles Kings (27-16-5) might be the defending Stanley Cup champions, but the staff makes its first-round line with the St. Louis Blues (29-17-2) as the lower-seeded underdog. Despite the not enough popular interest, this series will undoubtedly be an absolute war. Not just are both businesses predicated on solid defensive play (tied for seventh in the NHL with 2.4 targets permitted per game), the undeniable fact that each team has elite penalty-kill and power-play devices can make this one of the best series of the 2013 postseason. The major difference in this matchup could be the offensive capabilities of both businesses. While La is once streaky offensively, they are still one of many top 10 groups when it comes to scoring goals. St. Louis ranks 17th in the group in the type, and that lack of rating will ultimately give the Kings the series win. Prediction: Los Angeles over St. Louis, 4-3.

How former football 'greats' save your self face in the wake of what Federer and Nadal have done.

Sampras: Weak freaking competition. How many times do I've to say that? Geeezz!!!!! BOTH are on steroids - of an alternative sort. You've got wife as partner inside. Other his Uncle. There's no other way to describe obesity and full tresses - respectively - particularly when the relation is inverted in both cases. Besides, if I'd have chose to played longer I might have reached 17 - or older. And Federer driving me for many days @ No. 1 was set - by Agassi. Borg: There is NO doubt I'd have passed 17 if @ age had not been stopped by me 26. Just look at my freaking history until then. Besides, both of these haven't any pity. They are being beaten by their arch rival right left and middle and they STILL carry on. Where's the self respect and satisfaction. Shouldn't there be at least a suicide attempt? I did so that - often times, that you Do Not know of. Lendl: 11? Need I say more? 11+ 8 = 19. Duh!!!!!!!!! And I experienced much harder opposition - both on and off the court. McEnroe was after my life each and every time I was in america. And after my human body each time I was on court - elsewhere. And after my unborn child - every where else. Agassi: Heard of bungee jumping? That is freaking enough defense immediately. There is no way ANYONE may have stopped me, If I had not wandered off. Late the deal is closed by successful run - beyond ANY doubt. Both of these cannot even desire banging a sitting' Hollywood 'A' actor OR an actor and a sagging one also - at the same time. They are boring with no interests, identity or versatility. All they do is simply play football. Every one may do that - like some clown @ 14. Connors: Heard of Borg and McEnroe? That's without calling different second fiddles have been GREATER compared to main opposition these two clowns are ploughing through. I also had to waste energy pretending to be always a tough man. Besides, I married a model and have also been caught - which do not require can achieve. And Sampras is right - they're both on steroids.

Bob Paul's Incredible Jordan Shoe Series Is Likely To Make Sneakerheads Jealous

For each aid star level guard Chris Paul falls, he receives a pair of sneakers. Or 10. Ok, I am really kidding, but if it were true I'd perhaps not be astonished. Paul's wife, Jada (h/t nextimplusesports.com), posted an image on her Instagram accountAof her husband's boot "museum." Emphasis on "museum." The pair apparently had to spend an entire bedroom of their property to the shoe-induced cause, and what Jada catches in the picture is only a of Paul's collection. For all those concerned, I am pretty certain Little Chris was not displaced in the name of his father's shoes. They probably have enough bedrooms. I would not be surprised if Little Chris had their own toddler-shoe gallery at this point But we digress. Let us handle that noise you're currently hearing around the globe. It is the cadence of sneakerheads awash with envy, the Jordan manufacturer cashing in on that envy and women (and probably Dennis Rodman) drooling over exactly how many pairs of heels and UGGs they can cram into this here memorial. Don't imagine you're not shocked possibly. Since one photo is not enough. We already knew that Paul was receiving monthly shipments of sneakers. We had know thought that also meant he was the creator of a museum that rivals the Smithsonian. In the photograph alone, we could see countless sets of Jordans. That this is a "portion" of his selection is absurd. And great. Lovers of footwear understand that if they'd a bankroll or free entry like Paul, they had take advantage of it as well. After all, does not a set of sneakers or 10 each day, hold bare feet at bay? That's not the envy directing the others of your nervous system If you're currently feeling a twinge in your neck. It's a slight elevation in amazement. We know Paul receives shipments of shoes, and we know he has a sneaker structure to keep them in. What's with the empty rooms? Did he take those kicks on a journey, or does he really (gasp) have room for more? Jordan associates better send out a fleet of trucks filled with new gear. They can not need the curator of the company with barren slots in his public. As for when Paul eventually runs out of space, I am not sure what he'll do. Perhaps he will knock down some walls and develop. Maybe he'll ask to hire an area within your house. Probably he'll purchase your house just for his shoes. In either case, hold that gathering of sneakers coming along, Chris. Like the majority of friends, a point guard can never have too manyAshoes.

What Happened to the Final Major Club Football Tournament That Miami Declared?

Last week, FOX Soccer and Relevent Ventures announced the start of the International Champions Cup, each summertime a brand new membership soccer match which is played at sites across the globe, with the finals to be played in Miami beginning this August. The clubs who've consented to participate thus far are Real Madrid, Juventus, Inter Milan and Manhunter Galaxy, with four different clubs set to be exposed in the next two weeks. But what happened to the last important club basketball tournament that was introduced in Miami? Less than twelve months before, town authorities in Miami announced the launch of the Miami Soccer Challenge, an annual club opposition offering some of the greatest clubs on earth that will perform at Miamias Marlins Park baseball stadium. Some of the membership crests which were proudly displayed since the backdrop for the Miami Soccer Challenge media meeting involved Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, AS Roma and many more. Nevertheless, EPL Talk has learned that lots of the Premier League clubs had their crests prominently displayed, but had never given permission for Miami city officials to make use of their crest, nor had any arrangements with English clubs been signed. There were also rumors of the City of Miami receiving cease-and-desist letters from the English clubs since the staff crests were used without their permission, and their usage of the crests meant that the English clubs were promoting the match a again, without their permission. Pictures of the club crests are featured by the press conference backdrop, which may be considered on the Miami Marlins official website, as well as here. So far, theAMiami Soccer ChallengeAhas failed to appear even though the match have been suggested as starting in January, 2013. Marlins Park did host an amiable between Venezuela and Nigeria in November, 2012 in front of a crowd of 13,000, but so far no English teams have announced any suits to be played included in theAMiami Soccer ChallengeAfor the near future. I would include that the International Champions CupAhas no affiliation or connection withAMiami Soccer Challenge. Theyare two totally separate events run by separate agencies. TheAInternational Champions CupAis backed by Relevent Ventures, which is really a VC fund created by Miami Dolphins operator Steve Ross. The entireAInternational Champions CupAtournament is likely to be found on FOX Soccer (and presumably FOX Sports 1 beginning next year). President and publisher of EPL Talk, The Gaffer (aka Christopher Harris) is a journalist who has been presented in The Brand New York Times, The Guardian and some other magazines along with on NPR, BBC World, CBC, BBC Five Live, talkSPORT and beIN SPORT. Harris, who lives in Florida, has protected Swansea City since 1979. Harris launched EPL Talk in 2005.

Guy United Comfortable Of Sealing Package to Sign Borussia Dortmund Striker Robert... - caughtoffside

Old Trafford side ahead of Bayern Munich in pursuit for Bundesliga top-scorer. Check in to Arsenal vs Manchester United Man United are considered confident of beating Bayern Munich to the signing of Polish international Robert Lewandowski based on the Daily Telegraph. The 24 year old Borussia Dortmund forward is strongly connected with a move away from the Westfalenstadion and it was believed that a to the Allianz Arena was the most likely but this source states that the Bundesliga side will battle tooth and nail to prevent the striker moving to the Bavarian side. Jurgen Klopp has viewed midfielder Mario Gotze agree a to join Bayern Munich and will not need to see another leading talent join their domestic competitors and therefore a shift to Man United could be chosen by the German side, who last summer bought Shinji Kagawa to the Old Trafford side. There is speculation that Man United could be ready to accept offers for Wayne Rooney, who'll obviously maybe not be offered the same conditions on a new offer, which could in turn drive the England man to think about a shift away, leaving a position free for Lewandowski. On the problem of whether there clearly was room in his Man United squad for the Bundesliga star Sir Alex Ferguson said: aHave I acquired room for him? Room can be found by me for anybody.a He then taken care of immediately discussions of curiosity about the striker from Bayern Munich aDortmund supporters aren't going to be pleased and I donat think they will promote Lewandowski to Bayern Munich,a Ferguson added. aI feel theyall let his contract go out, or sell him anywhere else.a Lewandowski is the leading scorer in the Bundesliga this term and handled 30 last time in most games.

Manny Pacquiao's Next Combat Is Going To Be Career-Defining Second

For a two-year period, all of us thought that Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Might settle their long-standing beef on who the best fighter of this era was in the ring, together, and with a title on the point. In 2013, those thoughts have faded, and now both competitors seem destined to put up the name of "The fight that should have been, but never was" until both 1 day speak on the situation on a prime-time TV special. Mayweather's undefeated level and heritage live ona'Pacquiao's has become under consideration. In fact, the next time Pacquiao leaves the band in-front of a sell-out group, we will be singing a different song about the man widely regarded as one of the greatest boxing stars to actually participate past the change of the century. Two-straight losses to leading competitors is going to do that to a fighter. Pacquiao's first land came in summer time of 2012, when he was the victim of a decision that gave Timothy Bradley the World Boxing Organization Welterweight subject. It was still a disappointing finish with Mayweather still beingshown to people there, although some thought Pacquiao won the battle outright. Disappointing, yet not therefore crushing he couldn't overcome it. Then, in December, the next installment of his struggle with Juan Manuel Marquez took a for the worst, each time a back-and-forth bout changed into a sixth-round knockout, adding Pacquiao out of competition for any world name and likely eliminating a potential bout with Mayweather along the way. A third-straight loss can send Pacquiao into retirement. What is worse? It might forever change our interpretation of how important his career was to the boxing world. It's why his next fight is the most critical of his storied (54-5-2) career. The Filipino Congressman and former champ has laid low since his latest damage, selecting to instead concentrate on the forthcoming elections in the Philippines and deferring to Top Rank chef Bob Arum because the front for what is going on along with his running career. Arum spoke on Tuesday, speaking to the Manila StandardA( h/t BoxingNews24.com) that Pacquiao can have a selection between long-time potential competitors Brandon Rios and Mike Alvarado in an attack that would be planned for October. Per the speculation in the record, a Pacquiao win would likely mean he'd get the champion of the reported Marquez-Bradley combat in September, an attack that Top Rank has reserved a place for on September 14 (via Boxing Scene). By exactly the same token, a reduction would set him further down the Very Best Rank ladder and in a position where he'd have to offer an absurd sum of money to either experience Marquez a time or Bradley in a rematch. Both of these alternatives might depend on his choice to forgo pension, an option which was apparently discussed in-house with his wife and close confidants after the Marquez loss in December (h/t ESPN). Obviously, Pacquiao features a large four weeks before him with planning for his next battle. With Mayweather, Canelo Alvarez and others scheduled to battle at least oncea'maybe twicea'before he gets back in the band in October, Pacquiao will keep a detailed eye on the top of the pound-for-pound rankings and his position in the pecking order in the Welterweight section. Let us maybe not mince words herea'Pacquiao is among the best practitioners of his era. He's his boxing stardom have been used by a beloved countryman who to influence a struggling state, and he should be praised for both his early coming old and doing some thing more than just winning fights. If he drops the next three battles he accepts, it will not change the proven fact that he's one of the best fighters we've seen over the past decade. However, a loss to both Rios or Alvarado could significantly change the career trajectory of the falling star. At age 34, Pacquiao does not have time to bounce straight back from three-straight losses. Not enough time to climb back again to the utmost effective, anyway, and that may make requires him to hang up his gloves more powerful than ever in October. The interesting thing is, there is still a cure for a Pacquiao ascension. If you think about the very fact that the Bradley fight felt just like a Pacquiao win before the final decision, that he owed Marquez one following a pull and a youthful win in their collection and that the feature to his company remains large, a against Rios or Alvarado would vault Pacquiao into account for winnersa'not fights against folks looking to remain afloat in their team. While we wait for the forthcoming Mayweather and Robert Guerrero fight and wonder at the Top Rank battle between the last two men to overcome Pac-Man, the suspension will continue to increase for the Filipino hero. Since it should, Pacquiao's next battle is a important moment in determining how we remember him after he is long gone from the boxing world.

Brooklyn Nets vs. Chicago Bulls: Game 4 Live Score, Results and Game Highlights

With the 2013 NBA playoffs taking center stage once again, the Chicago Bulls will host the Brooklyn Nets at the United Center in Game 4 of their first-round series.

The Bulls currently own a 2-1 series lead, having one each of the past two games by holding the Nets to an average of 79.0 points per game. This has some wondering where Brooklyn's Game 1 brilliance has gone, as it scored 106 points in the opening contest.

The Nets have struggled to get their offense going during their past two games, with Deron Williams struggling to get his shot off against Kirk Hinrich. Carlos Boozer, meanwhile, is one of the MVPs of the playoffs, as he has shouldered the offensive load in three straight games.

Can he help lead the Bulls to a home win and extend their series lead to 3-1? Or will the Nets head back to Brooklyn with the series tied at 2-2?

OH MY GOD WE’RE GONNA DIE: Padres SS Everth Cabrera Flings Bat Into Own Dugout And Teammate Chris Denorfia Flips Out

1) Don't argue calls 2) Have fun 3) Don't throw the bat or else we'll put you in the bag with the catching equipment where you belong

Apparently those same axioms are not imparted to the 9-12 year olds of Nicaragua. Though, in the speedy shortstop's defense, he didn't do it on purpose. He just has a loose grip on something he violently swings around his body in 1/1000th of a second.

Judging by his reaction, Cabrera's San Diego Padre's teammate, Chris Denorfia, doesn't seem to give a shit that it was obviously an accident. He's just pissed he almost, well, died I guess. That'd kill you, right? Maybe he's just pissed because he's like that. Oh, well. Not on my team.

You can see Denorfia angrily holding up two fingers, in the way you would after the second time someone almost accidentally kills you. Has is happened before? Has this exact event occurred in previous games, whereby Everth Cabrera releases his bat into his own teams dugout? Will it happen again? Who knows. Although don't be surprised if tonight if it looks like there's another catcher standing in the on-deck circle.

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew fighting to help keep his job following... - Telegraph.co.uk

Pardew on Saturday evening insisted that he still thinks he can save your self Newcastle from relegation, but mentioned it was an aawfula performance. Mad home supporters fired up both his team and him following they are left by a result hanging alarmingly just two places above the Premier League relegation zone. It was the clubas worst home defeat because 1925. Pardew had demanded his people create a performance to atone due to their last fit at home, a defeat by local rivals Sunderland. Rather, his side capitulated against a Liverpool group for whom the build-up to the match had been entirely overshadowed by the punishment passed down to SuArez for biting Branislav Ivanovic. aWe require a gain in one of our two remaining absent games,a said Pardew. aYou canat come off a defeat like this and the manner of it and not worry. Iam perhaps not likely to criticise the people individually. Collectively we dropped short.a Asked concerning the way his team capitulated he continued: aWhen youare not playing properly and 3-0 down, it absolutely was a lot for some of the new participants to deal with. I believe I can get enough out of this group to keep them up and that process starts on Monday. I will keep on and fight through this. We havenat suddenly became a bad instruction staff.a Pardew is unlikely to keep Tyneside prior to the end of the summer season but even though he succeeds in leading Newcastle to protection a they presently hold a five-point cushion over Wigan a' the influence of the losses against Sunderland and Liverpool probably will see his position is reviewed by NNP owners in summer time. For Liverpool, the success was an emphatic end to a violent week. Daniel Sturridge started in place of SuArez and won twice, as did former Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson; Daniel Agger and Fabio Borini obtained another goals while Newcastle had Mathieu Debuchy sent off for just two yellow cards. It could have now been worse for Newcastle but for Wigan being held to a 2-2 draw by Tottenham. Elsewhere, a mob of Wolves supporters invaded the Molineux pitch and infected membership stewards and your home dugout after defeat by Burnley left them on the edge of relegation to League One.

Mike Brown and the Cleveland Cavaliers apparently will reunite, as the coach who got them to the playoffs in five successive periods is expected to be introduced since the team's head coach. Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal broke news of an agreement between your two sides on Tuesday: Whilst the La Lakers mind instructor led to Brown finding a current devastating stint fired only five games in to the 2012-13 season after having a 1-4 start. Manhunter bowed out in the Western Conference semifinals in the last year to the Oklahoma City Thunder. However, it appears as if operator Dan Gilbert is more comfortable with the instructor who regularly light emitting diode Cleveland to success as a result of strong defense. Brown won this year's NBA Coach of the Entire Year award in guiding the Cavs to a 66-16 record.

David Bakhtiari to Packers: How Can OT Fit with Green Bay?

When they picked Colorado offensive handle David Bakhtiari with the 109th over all pick in the fourth round the Green Bay Packers continued to handle their greatest requirements. Eighty-three picks earlier, the Packers fixed an evident gap at defensive end by taking UCLA's Datone Jones in the first round. At No. 61 overall, Alabama's Eddie Lacy filled the requirement for a game-changing running back. Now, Bakhtiari should add level at the Packers that have been really hurt by a position in past years. Here's the way the former Colorado tackle gels Green Bay. Role: Early degree, down-the-road starter? In 2013, the Packers get back all five starters on the offensive line from the conclusion of 2012 (Marshall Newhouse, T.J. Lang, Evan Dietrich-Smith, Josh Sitton, Don Barclay) and will welcome right back right handle Bryan Bulaga from a season-ending hip injury. There's also however hope that 2011 first-round pick Derek Sherrod may reunite and make a contribution. However the offensive linea'tackle, in particulara'is still an area the Packers had a need to address in this draft. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been sacked an 208 times since the start of the 2008 season, and it is been the Packers have been really hurt by pass-blocking breakdowns against good teams during the last two periods. Newhouse, thrown into a difficult position when incidents struck in 2011, has gradually improved as a on the left side, nonetheless it will probably be worth if he's capable of protecting the blind side of an Excellent Bowl-winning offense wondering. Upgraded play at the position is vital for the Packers. At the minimum, Bakhtiari may add fast range at tackle while also giving another moldable chess piece in Green Bay's attempts to fundamentally locate a long-term answer on the left side. His scouting record suggests a person who gives upside. At 6'4" and 300 pounds, Bakhtiari is a well-built tackle who has the legs of a new player who can perform on the left side. He also gives outstanding work ethic (referred to as a "gym rat," in accordance with NFL.com) and shows a nasty side in finishing off blocks. After a year in which Colorado concluded just 1-11, Bakhtiari well decided to see how his three years of starting at left tackle could turn to the NFL. The Packers considered enough of him to create him their fourth-round pick. The Packers are now able to allow all their tacklesa'Bakhtiari, Newhouse, Sherrod, Barclay, Andrew Datkoa'battle all through training camp and then find the best person for the job. With so many participants capable of winning the task, the Packers should really be able to enhance at the handle position in 2013. Choosing Bakhtiari suggests a commitment from Green Bay to recovering up front.

Top 7 Misconceptions About NBC’s Premier League Coverage

The vast majority of soccer fans in the United States are excited about NBC Sports taking over the US media rights to the Premier League beginning this summer, but there are several misconceptions that are being bandied around on the Internet that I want to address, so that everyone has the information they need to ensure they'll have the optimal coverage before the season begins.

1. I already get NBC Sports Network, so I'll be able to watch 100% of the live Premier League matches on television. Just because you subscribe to NBC Sports Network via your TV provider doesn't mean you'll be able to (1) get Premier League Extra Time, which are the overflow TV channels showing live games and (2) get EPL matches streamed live on NBC Sports Live Extra. Check with your TV provider to make sure that they'll be offering these two options to you.

2. My TV provider will automatically provide me with access to NBC Sports Live Extra, so I can stream all of the EPL games. Are you sure? As of press time, the four TV providers who have agreed to give their subscribers access to NBC Sports Live Extra (where you can stream all of the games for no additional cost) are Comcast xFinity TV, Suddenlink, Cablevision and Verizon FIOS.

3. I'll just subscribe to the online option only. There is no Internet offering available as a stand-alone product. You have to be a subscriber to NBC Sports Network via your TV provider. And even then, you need to make sure that your TV provider will provide you with access to the streaming games via NBC Sports Live Extra.

4. I subscribe to Comcast xFinity for my Internet access only. I'll still be able to watch EPL games streamed via NBC Sports Live Extra, right? Wrong. You have to be a TV subscriber, getting NBC Sports Network. And then you have to make sure that your TV provider has an agreement in place with NBC Sports to stream live EPL games via the NBC Sports Live Extra app. As of press time, the four TV providers who have agreed to give their subscribers access to NBC Sports Live Extra (where you can stream all of the games for no additional cost) are Comcast xFinity TV, Suddenlink, Cablevision and Verizon FIOS.

5. All of the Premier League matches will feature NBC commentators. False. Approximately 2-3 of the matches each weekend will feature NBC commentators. The remaining matches will include British announcers via the world feed.

6. All of the Saturday 12:30pm ET Premier League matches will be televised on NBC. Across the entire season, 20 Premier League matches are scheduled to be televised on NBC's free-to-air network at 12:30pm ET on Saturdays. The remainder will be shown live on NBC Sports Network in that time window.

7. NBC Sports will feature a ticker running across the bottom of the screen. Not true. In an exclusive interview with a NBC executive, EPL Talk learned that there will be no ticker distracting viewers during a match, that runs across the screen.

Bonus: With my TV provider, I have already been streaming content from NBC Sports Extra from their App since the Olympics last summer, so I should still be able to get EPL games streaming on NBC Sports Live Extra, right? Unfortunately not. As of press time, only Cablevision, Comcast xFinity TV, Suddenlink and Verizon FIOS have deals in place to stream EPL games via NBC Sports Live Extra. You'll need to contact your TV provider to urge them to make a deal with NBC Sports to provide live streaming EPL games via the NBC Sports Live Extra app.

Rodgers that! Manchester City want Liverpool boss to replace Roberto Mancini - Mirror.co.uk

Brendan Rodgers is the shock name in the frame to replace Roberto Mancini as Manchester City manager, writes the Sunday People.

The Liverpool boss has significant behind-the-scenes support at the Etihad despite a hit-and-miss first season at Anfield.

The Blues power-brokers believe the 40-year-old Irishman fulfils all the criteria they deem essential – like a willingness to blood young players early, media skills, and European experience – and the ace in his pack is that he is fluent in both English and Spanish.

Rodgers was City's first choice a year ago when he was at Swansea and Mancini was on the ropes – before the dramatic turnaround that saw his side crowned Premier League champions.

Rodgers has two years left on his Liverpool contract so City would have to pay compensation – but that won't deter them.

Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez is also a live contender for the City post – sources close to the Spaniard say he is desperate for the job.

What Would a Loss to Robert Guerrero Do to Floyd Mayweather's Legacy?

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been the top-ranked fighter of his era and is widely regarded as the best fighter in the world. He'll be putting his history and his reputation on the point when he steps into the ring with Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero May 4 in Las Vegas. Guerrero (31-1-1) is an excellent specialized fighter who knows he is obtaining the opportunity of a lifetime when he steps in to the ring with Mayweather (43-0-0). Guerrero comes across as serious in his learning Showtime's All-Access system that previews the struggle. Mayweather does not seem as severe. When he switches into the gym for a 1 a.m. Work out, Mayweather advances string like Sugar Ray Robinson after did and is outstanding on the speed bag. However, as opposed to continuing with his training work, Mayweather goes off to play pickup basketball. Mayweather is just a very confident fighter who understands that his teaching methods are strange. He doesn't believe that Guerrero or every other fighter will ever defeat him. But imagine if Mayweather's neglect costs him against Guerrero? Imagine if he incurs Guerrero's most useful strike and gets knocked out along the way? Imagine if a Guerrero flurry stuns Mayweather and it effects in a for the best fighter on the planet. How poorly would a loss damage Mayweather's legacy? Mayweather isn't a machine. Great delight is taken by him in having a clean record with zeroes in the draw and loss columns. The practitioners in the history of the game have now been overwhelmed. the renowned Muhammad Ali, the famous Joe Louis and these Robinson all dropped multiple battles. They're probably the three most readily useful fighters of all time. Rocky Marciano and Gene Tunney both completed their jobs with undefeated records and it is a thing that Mayweather wish to copy. But if he were to shed a to Guerrero, the fight would probably do more harm to Mayweather's mind than it'd to his heritage. If Mayweather were to obtain bumped outa'a long shot at besta'it could really be a shocker and almost certainly a fluke. If he were to lose a detailed decisiona'thanks to his less-than-stellar training habitsa'it would develop a many more curiosity about the activity. Mayweather will need sometime to come to grips using what happened. His training efforts would be probably redoubled by him through the remainder of his 30-month contract with Showtime (source: ESPN.com), once he acknowledges a loss as fact. Boxing supporters could possibly see Mayweather's most readily useful work in years in a with Guerrero, and in several subsequent battles. So a reduction would do hardly any to hurt his long-term legacy. But what if the loss was not taken by him professionally? Imagine if his desire to finish his career having an undefeated record has been his primary motivation? What if it could not be put by him behind him? Then his name would take a hit. All fighters get hit. All practitioners get hurt. Just about any fighter loses in the band. You have to make contact with business and get up after a defeat. Your reputation suffers, If you're able to not. Mayweather is really a professional. That's the underside line. If the unthinkable happened and he dropped to Guerrero, he would gather himself, rededicate himself and then return to top form.

USC's Barkley, 3 other QBs picked in 4th round

Saturday's fourth round of the NFL draft featured a shopping spree for signal callers, beginning with the opening pick of Southern California's Matt Barkley, taken by Philadelphia after a trade with Jacksonville.

Yes, it was three rounds later than Barkley hoped for. Same thing for Ryan Nassib of Syracuse, Landry Jones of Oklahoma and Tyler Wilson of Arkansas, the other quarterbacks chosen early Saturday.

"We're going to take the best value on the board," coach Chip Kelly said, adding the Eagles rated Barkley in the top 50. "There's a prime example. The best value on the board by far was Matt. He's an extremely mature young man, intelligent, articulate. He has that 'it' factor."

Perhaps. But he seemed to have a lot more of it last year. Barkley was projected as a first-round selection last year, but opted to return to school. He and the Trojans slumped, Barkley injured his shoulder, and his stock plummeted.

"I try not to get stressed about things I can't control," Barkley said when asked about his drop in the draft. "I'm just glad I know where my home is and I can't wait to hit the playbook."

The New York Giants, hardly in need of a quarterback with Eli Manning in his prime, still dealt with Arizona to move up for Nassib.

Oakland, which acquired Matt Flynn from Seattle in the offseason to be its starter, followed two picks later at No. 112 overall with Wilson. Three spots after that, Pittsburgh grabbed Jones, probably hoping to groom him behind Ben Roethlisberger.

National champion Alabama, which had four players chosen previously — three in the first round — saw linebacker Nico Johnson go to Kansas City with the pick after Barkley was taken. Crimson Tide guard Barrett Jones, who can play all offensive line positions, was taken by the Rams midway in the fourth round.

Heavy security on streets for Nashville marathon

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — With a SWAT team parked near the starting line, Scott Wietecha of Hendersonville, Tenn., won the St. Jude Country Music Marathon on Saturday after missing the Boston Marathon because of too much training.

This was the largest combined marathon and half-marathon in the United States since the April 15 bombings. Heavy security turned out on a cold and rainy Saturday morning with more than 30,000 runners and a crowd estimated at more than 50,000.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security was on hand along with Nashville police, more than 150 private security officers and extra bomb-sniffing dogs.

Wietecha finished in 2 hours, 22 minutes, 41 seconds for his first marathon victory. He is only the second American champion in the 14-year history of the race, and the win follows his decision not to run in Boston. The 31-year-old Wietecha said he had trained so much he felt too worn out to run well in Boston.

"I was bummed at first, but I'm actually pretty happy it didn't work out," Wietecha said. "I feel bad for what happened there but I'm glad I was able to come back here and getting my marathon in. It was a cool experience coming out here and winning the hometown run."

Before the start, Boston's adopted song, "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond, blared through speakers. A moment of silence was held, with heads bowed and peace signs raised. An American flag waved as the first wave of runners took off on Nashville's streets.

"With runners, they bond together, so it makes people stronger, "Wietecha said. "So I don't understand the goal of (the bombings)."

Security had been a top priority since the bombings. Nashville officials held a news conference Tuesday to reassure runners and their family and supporters they would be safe with a heavy presence of federal and state officials. They also reminded everyone to be alert for anything suspicious, with a hotline set up for tips.

T.C. Weber of Nashville waited for his wife, Priscilla, near the finish line with his 2-year-old son, Peter, and 3-year-old daughter Avery. Weber, 47, wasn't concerned about his safety.

Jennifer Moore of Brentwood held an umbrella as she searched for her boyfriend, Allan Williams, who was running the half-marathon.

"Obviously, there was always a concern," Moore said. "But we knew security was increased and not to stand near trash cans and to be cognizant of your surroundings."

Wietecha, competing in his fourth marathon, finished five minutes before runner-up Andrew Catalano of Colorado Springs, Colo. Jill Horst of Rome, Ga., was the top women's finisher at 2:57:52. The rain prevented faster times, with no one within 10 minutes of the course record set by Kenya's Luke Kibet in 2000.

"This is a miserable day," said Justin Gillette of Goshen, Ind., who placed third. "People are standing here and getting poured on. It is not fun. You wouldn't do this unless you were crazy in head."

Strategy v Manchester United: Robin van Persie moves from baby in the 'cage' to... - Telegraph.co.uk

Robin van Persieas 2nd goal against Aston Villa on Monday was one occasion. aThe purpose of the century,a said Ferguson, beaming with pleasure. Thoughts in north London considered a similarly wonderful Van Persie volley against Charlton in 2006. aThe purpose of a ArsAne Wenger said after that fit. The regard for Van Persie of English footballas two longest-serving last summer supervisors was apparent in more personal discussions. Ferguson ultimately only clinched the signing of Van Persie after professionally calling Wenger. It had been the start of a series of calls, described by Ferguson as like apokera, that finally ended with a A24 million deal and an engaging ultimate message. aHeas even better than you think,a Wenger told Ferguson. That was underlined on Monday with a hat-trick that not only clinched the Premier League title but in addition represented the wider fulfilment of an outstanding talent. aI had to attend so long,a said Van Persie. He was right. Van Persie has become 29 and his only previous winnersa medals a' a Uefa Cup with Feyenoord in 2002 and an FA Cup with Arsenal in 2005 a' must seem like a really number of years ago. This, after all, is a person who was feted in Holland from age 13 while the natural heir to Johan Cruyff. As he now prepares to go back to Arsenal for initially as a Manchester United person, the larger issue is how Van Persie has been converted of these past couple of years from underachieving Premier League striker to probably the best on earth. Any understanding of Van Persie today must inevitably start in Kralingen, a varied area in east Rotterdam where he spent his youth. His parents, Bob van Persie and Josee Ras, are both musicians and their imagination has clearly rubbed off. aWhen I look at a football pitch I guess, yes, I view it as my canvas,a says Van Persie. aI think I am creative in sport. I think Iam always searching for the greatest, the maximum.a Bob actually created a piece of artwork titled aArsenal peoplea made from established membership publications that has been hung outside the directorsa box at the Emirates. The picture has remained in place even with Van Persieas travel and Bob is now get yourself ready for another event of his just work at a Manchester gallery in September. Van Persie continued to reside along with his father after his parents separated when he was five, where time he was already well on the trail to fame. There's much new research on the formative years of sporting winners and there is increasing evidence that the idea of aborn geniusa is significantly overrated when set from the quality and level of early exercise. Proponents of this argument might feel vindicated by the remarkable story of Van Persie who, from the age of four, was paying all his spare hours in what's regarded locally in Rotterdam as athe cagea. It is a real region surrounded by fence which, by happy chance, was only 5 minutes from where Van Persie lived. The practice mightn't Have now been structured in any conventional way nonetheless it was where Van Persieas lethal left foot was honed. Marco van Lochem may be the head of youth at SBV Excelsior, Van Persieas first team, and instantly thought back once again to athe cagea when he found Mondayas volley against Villa. aHe was also doing some goals like this here,a said Van Lochem. aSome instructors will say to young players adonat try this, donat do thata. Our view would be to give small players time with the ball to develop and express themselves.a That neighborhood football background continues to be basic to understanding the person Van Persie is now. He still talks of getting the maximum amount of fun from the brilliant assist as a goal, and he proceeds to play with exactly the same organic freedom and satisfaction as when he was a bit more when compared to a toddler. aFrom the very first time I saw him, I knew this might be considered a Superman,a says Rene Hessel, who taught Van Persie from seven to 12. A move to Feyenoord became certain but his progress was to stall suddenly. He came to Arsenal with the reputation if you are hard to control but, in seven years under Wenger, the key obstacle to his improvement was real. Defeating some internal struggles and latterly incidents has been completely crucial in the flourishing of Van Persie. The fit at Arsenal tomorrow is likely to be Van Persieas 83rd sequential Premier League game because December 2010. Before that, it took fully couple of years more to perform exactly the same amount of activities. Wenger is convinced that Van Persie could have been considered in the exact same elite segment as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo much early in the day in his profession were it perhaps not for injuries. The problem, then, is what explains this change. Van Persie and Wenger think that it has been generally chance, pointing out that around 80 % of his past injuries weren't muscular but merely brought on by collisions. What is interesting, but, is that these effect since Van Persie has performed further forward injuries have largely stopped. aHe is more patient,a says Wenger. aBefore he often returned in midfield but now he remains there [further forward] and employs his killer instinct much better.a Van Persie says he has been playing twice weekly awith easea this season and also believes that he may continue well into his thirties. aI think Iall get until very very late,a he says. There's also the idea as his off-field that his accidents have subsided behaviors have increased. Balance at home is provided by partner Bouchra and their small children Shaqueel and Dina. People who know Van Persie over and over repeatedly describe him as atypically Dutcha in his forthright method but additionally increasingly mature and less impulsive. Wenger especially shows his capacity for self-analysis. In much the same way as Sir Dave Brailsford, the motivation behind British biking, Van Persie is now obsessive about these limited increases. aEvery morning I focus on new issues. I become aware of little details which make me better,a he says. A former Arsenal associate added: aHe is just a student of football. He'd know everything about his competitors, everything about baseball all over the world and everything about his own statistics. He knew if he had a bad game and was really competitive.a That was apparent even in the table tennis games at the club. Van Persie was the most effective at Arsenal and it was arranged for him to play a match with Darius Knight, a British international. The difference in standard was huge but, if they met, Van Persie still wanted Knight to perform entire out against him and had no qualms about being shown up in the pursuit of learning more. Speak to Van Persie about basketball and he'll sit all night pontificating concerning the merits of certain people and teams. His eyes light at the mention of players like Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp or Cesc Fabregas. His information in a Sky Sports meeting earlier in the day this year of the present Arsenal squad as anice, great boysa thought somehow telling. For the reason that situation, it's straightforward how anything possibly died inside him as, 1 by 1, so many good players left Arsenal. Additionally, it explains why athe little boy within hima wanted to be surrounded by what he calls achampionsa at United. Van Persie has specially flourished under Fergusonas associate, the Dutchman Rene Meulensteen. aHe quickly found his way in the group. No arrogance, nothing. Perfect,a said Meulensteen. aThere is just a coach hiding inside him.a Meulensteen and Ferguson employed Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes before signing Van Persie to evaluate their view of how it'd go down in the dressing space. Similarly, Van Persie spent an hour on the telephone with Edwin van der Sar, quizzing him about everything United. Nobody might be certain that it'd work so well. Other excellent people have shrunk beneath the Old Trafford glare but, rather like Eric Cantona, it seemingly have presented much more in Van Persie. His confidence was instantly obvious by his range of shirt number 20 for the particular purpose that United were opting for their 20th group title. Such self-assurance has been infectious. aIt was time for Manchester United to truly have a big-name player,a says Meulensteen. aThat makes a security for players. They feel nothing bad could happen to them because we have got Robin van Persie. Robin gives group to the an invincible feeling.a Even United associates have already been amazed by his influence, particularly in the large games. Ferguson says he can't think about a player who has received this effect. H Neville, who played alongside Cantona and has become a for Sky Sports points towards the strikeras advantages at the season-defining moments. aThe test for Robin van Persie was, could he come to Manchester United and reproduce this form,a says Neville. aGreat people rating goals when you need them. You get bullies who score goals in activities you could gain 6-0. Massive goals have been scored by him to win big games. "He has been involved in the major moments when you're, when it is difficult behind. To score a hat-trick to win your staff the championship in your first time is just a dream.a Van Persie says he switches into work racing and, as he covers the wants of Giggs and Scholes, he looks again that way awestruck kid who again and again pressed herself from the teenagers in the Rotterdam crate. aGiggs and Scholes are better yet than I expected,a says Van Persie. aWhen I first stumbled on Arsenal, I saw things from Bergkamp, from Thierry Henry that we had never observed in my life before. Today Iam seeing them again. "It makes me happy. It's like a child in a sweet shop. I had a fantastic experience to go for a huge challenge last summer. This was the greatest problem so far. Every day only tells I to me made the best move.a

As Arsenal make to give a to Man United of Honour, we ask... what's it... - Daily Mail

UPDATED: 17:51 EST, 25 April 2013 Manchester United are expected be given a of Honour by Arsenal once they go out at the Emirates on Sunday a' but why? It is not mandatory for any team to provide a Guard of Honour if they experience the newly crowned League winners but is really a wedding agreed between your two clubs. It is understandable that Arsenal could put one on for United, who first celebrated the Gunners' 1991 group concept win, giving them a of Honour at Highbury. Old tradition: United clap Chelsea out in 1955 The Manchester membership have a brief history of respecting competitors and in addition they honoured Chelsea training the Premier League trophy in 2005. To reciprocate, Chelsea did the same for United Couple of years later. Everton also famed United's subject achievement on the last day of the growing season in 2003 at Goodison Park. However it is not exclusive to the current Time, and when United provided one for occurred as far back as 1955 Chelsea. It is not only useful for title champions whether ' a guard was Produced in 2011 by United and Sunderland to enjoy Sir Alex Ferguson's 25 years responsible. Arsenal was also applauded by newcastle players to St James' Park in 1994 if they won the European Cup-Winners' Cup. The exact source of the Guard of Honor isn't identified, but back centuries are dated by early examples before to Ancient Greece. The Ancient Greek poet Homer wrote about players as fallen heroes have been given the same service. You can find more Cases all through Medieval history and Classical. Guard of Honour: United applaud Chelsea on to the Old Trafford frequency in-may 2005 Their roots are firmly in the military. As military historian John Sadler explains: 'Most established armies have a Guard of Honour individual and function members are drawn from the rates of the elite, chosen for their imposing appearance, bearing and perfection. The prime features are to (a) supply a guard for browsing dignitaries, (b) for national civic ceremonials and (d) to honour the dead/fallen allies. 'In the UK these features are Broadly speaking given by the Foot Guards and Household Cavalry, although all Divisions and regiments of the company could field a guard of honor, depending on circumstances. It is obvious how this can transfer to sport.' It is a work that shows a huge Amount of value, but one that jars with some players. When Roy Keane and Gary Neville experienced one another applauding Chelsea on to the Old Trafford pitch in-may 2005 for Jose Mourinho's first name, neither player desired to look their competitors in the attention. Neville said A short while later nothing had stuck in his craw more during in his profession and Keane said it was a great experience since it taught him that it was one he never wished to proceed through again. Arsenal v Manchester United: play more, score more: Robin van Persie's simple ... - Telegraph.co.uk

Basically, that is what has happened over the past couple of years, firstly with Arsenal and latterly with Manchester United. In managing to avoid the treatment table, the curse of his early days, Van Persie has flourished in spectacular fashion to become a centre-forward of world class stature.

And who would have predicted that back, say, in 2005 when the young Dutchman was being groomed at Arsenal as Dennis Bergkamp's successor? That meant playing the No 10 role just off the main striker, loading the bullets as a visionary playmaker.

His future seemed mapped out. Just like Bergkamp, he would not be banging in thirty goals a season but he might be setting up that many with his imaginative passing.

Funny how things can turn out. Because when Arsène Wenger, in the absence of anything better, put him up top as an orthodox striker, the lad grasped the nettle like he had been playing there all his life.

The business of leading the line, holding up the ball with his back to play, timing his runs in behind – stuff much different from the demands of a deeper-lying creator – all came fairly naturally. Van Persie quickly turned into a completely different player.

What is more, I think he has developed even further in the past year. Perhaps inspired by the challenge of impressing new team-mates, his general game has sharpened up in terms of linking the play and combining with others. His movement in the box also got better as he came to terms with a different sort of service.

Arsenal, for instance, did not have a winger quite like Antonio Valencia, someone who bases his game on crossing the ball at the earliest opportunity. It did not take long for Van Persie to suss that one out, just as he quickly adjusted to Michael Carrick's passing and Wayne Rooney's positioning.

That comes down to football intelligence. Practise some moves on the training ground and the very best players do not need telling twice.

Another interesting stat is the one concerning dribbles, the fact that Van Persie does not undertake so many these days. Could it be that he does not feel the need to do it all by himself? That he is happy to let the team do the talking rather than the individual?

Approaching 30, perhaps he feels it wise to play a more economical game, when one or two touches are usually enough. They are, too, if your touches are sound and your movement sharp. Oh, and your finishing as lethal as United's No 20.

Arsenal FC – Arsene Wenger Won't Stick Around Forever - Sportige

It may be a good thing, it may be a bad turn of developments. But it seems the day Arsene Wenger is no longer the manager of Arsenal is getting closer. What does the future hold? A turn of events for the better, or a sharp decline into obscurity and the unimportance that shouldn't be a part of the everyday life of a club such as the gunners are.

Maybe PSG are the next team to enjoy the "brilliance" of the professor. Maybe with a different set of owners Wenger won't be so hard to pull on the breaks, and change his philosophy when it comes to signing players.

Have Arsenal fallen from proud champions and title contenders into a team that can't make it past the quarterfinals of the Champions League and barely finish in the top 4 because of Arsene Wenger? Because of an ownership that cares just about profit, and not about the ambitions of the club and its fans?

Wenger has made excuses for quite some time, but it is his poor decision making when it comes to choosing his players – signing, lineups, what not. One of the questions is whether a different manager, with the same ownership, would have done better? Possibly, although seem to think that Wenger has this bunch of players fighting for the 3-4 spots in hopes of another season in the Champions League is a success.

Others think it shows just how far Arsenal have fallen. When all they can attract are Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud, not coming cheaply at all, but not delivering the kind of scoring production you'd expect from forwards costing eight figures. When Jack Wilshere is wrongly mistaken for the team's messiah, while Wenger doesn't know how to harness that raw talent or keep him off the injured list.

Maybe Stan Kroenke is looking to sell, and someone a little bit more ambitious is heading towards the gunners ownership role. Maybe Arsenal are right now in the sane path of running a football team and will be the last team standing once the financial situation devours all. But the feeling is Arsenal are the only club playing by the rules while everyone else keeps moving forward in giant steps.

Arsene Wenger built this team back into where it belongs, the top, or near it, of the league. But his persistence to stick to his own path, which is old-fashioned and misdirected, might make us remember as a little bit less of what he deserves.

Stars Have Arranged for a Lakers First-Round Upset

The La Lakers are barely a bet in the 2013 NBA playoffs. Their period hasnat gone as planned, and despite being the leagueas next super staff, theyave seemed far more common than super hence far. That being said, their postseason dreams are alive, and they couldnat have called for a far greater matchup compared to San Antonio Spurs. For L.A., playoff seeding wasnat established before the final game of the 2012-13 campaign. A season-ending overtime success gave the staff seventh position, exceeding the Houston Rockets, and making a matchup to the Lakers against San Antonio. A faceoff with the Spurs isnat likely to be a for L.A.a'let alone anyone elsea'but the truth is that the Oklahoma City Thunder would have introduced much greater problems in a seven-game series. All through 2012-13, L.A. faced off against the Thunder four times, earning one time. It had an impressive 105-96 victory on Jan. 27, however the other three competitions led to three failures, all of which came by an average of significantly more than 12.5 points per game. Contrary to the Spurs, the Lakers fared far better. While they only was able to fit out one win in three triesa'a win without Kobe Bryant, nonethelessa'they never lost by significantly more than three items. Paul DaAntoni has more knowledge training against Gregg Popovich than he does against Scott Brooks, and that record, but not always in his favor, offers him a better idea of how exactly to plan a multi-game series. The Lakers revealed, in Game 1, that they have an advantage in the paint when they execute correctly. Against San Antonio, you canat simply remove the ball inside and be prepared to take control. Popovichas staff is too disciplined to not turn, and the double-teams upset any options Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol had of backing down one-on-one. Where in actuality the Lakers have to do an improved job is using backdoor movement to create open looks down low. Howard posseses an athletic advantage against any big his way is thrown by the Spurs, and Gasol could "out-skill" anybody not called Tim Duncan. The body of Kendrick Perkins and the shot-blocking potential of Serge Ibaka might have reduced the Lakersa one true benefit, potentially depriving them of even more looks inside. The other section of the Lakersa performance that should change, as easy since it sounds, is in the mid-range. San Antonio was more than willing to provide the Lakersa pads appears in pick-and-roll situations. Popovich understands the advantage that L.A. has inside, and by letting the guards to fire away, Howard and Gasol got fewer looks going toward the edge. In Game 1, La couldnat knock down the mid-range chance with any frequency. Itas an important reason it obtained only 79 items, but itas also an area that can help nudge this series in its favor. Despite firing badly in the first trip of the playoffs, this staff wasnat as poor during the regular time. If his legs can be got by Steve Nash back, his jumper will seem better early in activities, and San Antonio will have to choose whether to challenge the shot down low or up top. Right now, thatas an easy decision to produce, but a quick turnaround on L.A.as part will change that moving forward. Among the key storylines with this collection is health. Bryant is out, Nash is recovering, and Jordan Hill continues to work toward his reunite, but the Spurs arenat completely either. Tony Parker continues to be receiving treatment on a left ankle from March 1, according toAMike MonroeAof mysanantonio.com. The waning offense of the Spurs has seen a decrease following a level guardas damage, as pointed out byADan McCarney, also of mysanantonio.com. The group went from calculating 107.3 points per 100 possessions in the very first 60 competitions to 103 points in its future 20. With Parker out from the lineupa'or significantly less than healthya'the group has lost both production and performance. Before the Spurs dropped to L.A. on April 14, they certainly were calculating only 96.8 items per 100 possessions in their previous five trips. Their productivity had fallen atlanta divorce attorneys firing class, and they continued to lose the next two, offering themselves a three-game losing streak going in to the postseason. Despite giving up 18 details to Parker in Game 1, the Lakers held the opposing floor general to just 8-of-21 firing. This can be a great showing for a perimeter defense that's fought all yeara'a perimeter defense that could have dreams addressing Russell Westbrook. Another point to see is that Manu Ginobili is just a large X-factor. If the Spursa 2-guard may re-create his Game 1 performance every action of the way, La is in some trouble. However, if he remembers that heas significantly less than 100 percent and comes back down to Earth, thatas an enormous gain in the Lakersa benefit. Just in case you were thinking, the favorites arenat likely to have a decisive X-factor. Theyare the favorites for reasons, and you can guess that the Thunder arenat counting on if Kevin Martin can help out Westbrook and Kevin Durant. Ginobili has the ability to make this collection for San Antonio, but he also has the potential to create them down closer to L.A.as level. You've to pick your poison, as it pertains to OKC and San Antonio. They both have expertise galore to bring to the dining table, and they both proved throughout the year that theyare the top two teams out West for reasons. That being said, L.A. fought hard down the stretch, and the team set itself ready to make the more favorable of the 2 matchups. Nobodyas saying itas planning to be simple, but the Lakers have the line they wanted. Now itas time to make the most by demonstrating they belong in the playoffs and that they may be tremendous in the end.
