Arizona Diamondbacks 2013: The D'Backs Should Extend John Goldschmidt

Based on Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports, the Arizona Diamondbacks are discussing a long-term deal with 25-year-old first baseman Paul Goldschmidt. And you know what? AThey absolutely should be, because he is going to be certainly one of the greatest first basemen in the National League. Goldschmidt, who's going in to his third year with the D'backs in 2013, had a.286/.359/.490 cut line this past year, 20 property runs, 82 RBI, 82 runs won, 18 stolen bases and 147 hits in 514 at-bats. And don't forget that he is also under group control before 2017 season and is 2 yrs from being arbitration-eligible. Yes, Goldschmidt is in a interesting situation with Arizona; the wise thing is always to lock him up now while he is young and to ascertain a degree of trust with a person from the front office perception while the staff can still get him for an amount. This extension would also indicate a continuous tendency for the D'backs' front office since it would be the sixth extension given by the the staff within the offseason (Aaron Hill, Martin Prado, Cliff Pennington and J.J. Putz). In the long run, this might be great move for the Diamondbacks organization. Goldschmidt's production potential is real and will only increase as he develops as a new player. Locking him in in the beginning base is the greatest move the D'backs may make, and it looks like fans are merely days away from reading that he may stay with the staff for several more a long time.
