David Caleb Sanders is really a junior guard for Liberty. The Flames (15-21), Big South Conference tournament champs, directly missed obtaining the initial NCAA tournament victory in program history on Tuesday. Freedom lost 73-72 to New York A&T in a sport in Dayton, falling lacking a Round of 64 matchup without Any. 1 seed Louisville. Sanders missed a potential game-winning layup just before the last buzzer sounded. Going into the North Carolina A&T sport, that whole day I probably didnat a half the night time and rest one hour before because I was so amped up. I wasnat tired during the game either. I recall seeing the fans and walking available. It wasnat true complete, however you seem midway through the next half and that place was packed. It had been the chance of a lifetime. Iave never had that feeling for a basketball game ever. It almost didnat feel real. With seven seconds left when I got the ball down one place, I zoned out. It was the weirdest thing. I went back to only a little child playing in the yard like I used to do all the time. You imagine being in the NCAA tournament down one with six seconds left, dribble down and get the layup for the gain. I zoned out for a little bit, and then I went back to reality and I had the ball in my hands and just tried to do the play I composed within my mind. I was either likely to the edge or my only two other available choices that I considered were finding Tavares Speaks or Davon Marshall. Tavares is clutch and had really been knocking them down. I realized theyad be face-guarding Davon because threes were already hit six by head. When I first got it, Coach has always said go to the side, therefore thatas what I did. I was going right and that right block was taken off by Austin Witter. I switched left and he got there quick enough and so as I can I tried to create the maximum amount of contact because if I would have faded he would have blocked it once I got to that left stop, Iam only 6-foot. I thought maybe I could get this matter up or obtain a foul. When it didnat get in, seriously, my first thought was Tavares. Heas the sole senior we've, and he knows I did everything I can, but I only feel really sorry for him. Iam going to have another shot at this issue. I was angry that I didnat end for him. Gregory Shamus/Getty Photos I was sad for about a minute, however I started thinking about the whole year and precisely what we have done. Most of the emotions kind of hit you actually donat and you such as a wave understand what to do. I viewed my phone after we had a meeting, and someone texted me that as consolation prize you got a band and you got a conference tournament title. Yeah, we wanted to win that NCAA tournament game and we wanted to succeed, but when you look straight back at the growing season, we did a lot more than anybody thought we ever would. I considered the Charleston Southern game in the Big South tournament was the biggest game of my entire life and the main one which I played. But actually which was nothing set alongside the feelings and emotions of the NCAA game once you losta'even just the game itself. At the end of the overall game, if I knew we were going to drop by one, Iad still play it 100 times. I enjoyed that baseball game a lot more than Iave enjoyed any game within my life even though we lost. The entire journey was good. When we arrived on the plane, we didnat actually get our very own bags. Feet were just walked 10 by us to obtain on the bus. A police escort was got by us to the fitness center and the same finding its way back. They treat you well. We had supporters at our training. The hotel was great and when we went in, they had Liberty shirts and were rooting for people. It was the precise opposite of what was going on for all of us in February. It was definitely different. One of many first people I observed all through our exercise was Craig Sager. All I could consider was Kevin Garnett creating fun all of his matches throughout all his interviews. I had a 10-minute meeting in a space with him and which was type of weird talking to him. Then next I looked over and stepped out and found our press guy conversing with a guy and thinking he looked really familiar. Then I understood it absolutely was Steve Kerr and went over there and said, aHey, my name is...a and he stopped me and said aI know who you're, John Caleb, you had an excellent game against Charleston Southern.a Streeter Lecka/Getty Photographs David Kerr knows who I am; thatas kind of weird. I know heas only been doing his research in regards to the game, however it was still cool. Charlie then called Davon over by name and spoke to him, and that was rather neat. I was hardly ever really into professional activities. We didnat have a lot of money rising up an NBA player had never been never met by me and so I never visited any NBA games. The cheerleaders were probably and out there 100 people, when we got home from Dayton after our loss. Our vice president was there. I walked into school on Thursday and had several people start clapping and my teacher was talking to me in regards to the game. You walk around campus and you canat get anywhere. People are coming up and conversing with us, showing us, 'Good sport'! Itas been good. Gregory Shamus/Getty Images I didnat desire to watch the Louisville compared to. North Carolina A&T game. Iam happy for anyone people, but I didnat wish to watch. All it was enjoyed by the other games Iave and that is my personal favorite time of the year. I am sensible when you see these groups. I'd have gone in optimistic if we had played Louisville but odds are we werenat planning to win that game. Youare planning to lose at some point. So we reach return and enjoy it. This really is one of my personal favorite times of the year. Iave had three TVs create and switching back and forth between all of the games. It is different in 2010 to think that may have been us playing, since we havenat really been close another two years Iave been here. In a couple weeks weall get to work and attempt to return.
