I do not wish to be the bearer of bad news, folks, but I am afraid we shall not view a Triple Crown winner this year. Around I would love to see Orb break the 34-year drought, it is not likely to happen. So why am I being so negative? For just one, I really do not think the faster Pimlico track at the Preakness gains Orb's running style. As Bill Dwyre of the Los Angeles Times notes:, and I'm maybe not alone Converse of a Triple Crown begins, as is definitely the case after a Kentucky Derby. Racing needs one and has not had it since Affirmed in 1978, an 35 years, some sense. Experts here say that Orb is bred for the killer 11/2-mile range of the next leg, the Belmont, but that the faster, stronger Preakness could be Orb's Achilles' heel. And if it is Orb's Achilles' heel, it will be horse racing's Achilles' heel also. Orb's remarkable end down the stretch at the Kentucky Derby was something to see, however it left many questions going into the Preakness. Plus, you never know in case a horse will appear that didn't work at the Derby and surprise the industry. Concerning think the horse can grab the second leg of the Triple Crown there are as much reasons to question Orb. Then again, the subject at the Preakness could be very thinned out from the one we saw at the Derby. According to Chris Korman of the Baltimore Sun, Revolutionary, Normandy Invasion, Charming Kitten, Overanalyze, Palace Malice and Verrazano will not be entered into the Preakness, Mylute and Golden Soul are unlikely to be entered in the battle and Oxbow, Will Simply take Charge and Itsmyluckyday are likely to make the journey. And it is never as though Orb is some flash in the pan. The horse was one of many favorites heading into the Kentucky Derby and, provided the field heading to the Preakness, must certanly be an important favorite at Pimlico. You can find reasons to believe. But we've just been concentrating on the next race. Even if Orb wins two-thirds of the Triple Crown, there's still the mile-and-a-half at the Belmont Stakes. While that course seems more worthy of Orb's design, there is sufficient time at that competition for another horse to appear at the end. The job is daunting for Orb. The chances are stacked contrary to the horse. History is not on Orb's part. We all hope that the horse can finally end this Triple Crown famine. But I just don't view it happening. Sorry, persons.
