Father fighting forever after West Bromwich hit-run incident - expressandstar.com

A father-of-two is fighting for his living in hospital after being left for dead with a strike and run driver in the Black Country. Simon Oldnall, aged 43, was currently in a coma and considering lifesaving surgery after as he entered Black Lake in West Bromwich being pulled down by way of a car. The self-employed rug fitter endured numerous serious injuries including a broken neck, shoulder, feet and a lung in the incident on Friday at 9.40pm. Today, a police appeal was backed by his partner Laura Irvine, 28, for witnesses of the crash to come forward. Miss Irvine said: aIave just surely got to cope with it now and be there for the two children. I've to pretend everything is all right a' they know he is in hospital, but donat know how bad it is. aIn my heart I understand he will make it, but there is that small chance he mightn't a' itas damaging most of the family.a Mr Oldnall have been with his friend Adrian Leir in Birmingham when he returned on the Metro to Black Lake. The pair were crossing the road to go to The New Talbot tavern when the vehicle hit Mr Oldnall and narrowly missed Mr Leir. Mr Oldnallas brother Stephen, 36, also of Anson Road, said: aWe are wishing he makes a complete recovery, but it isnat planning to be simple, definately not it. Iad ask anyone who knows anything to have touching police, please.a Mr Oldnall, who was born in Hill Top, attended Hill Top High School before leaving to train as a rug trimmer. Today, police were appealing for witnesses ahead forward. Officers have examined the picture for forensic evidence and will also be considering CCTV footage of the episode. Sgt Gavin Green said: aTo assist, I'd ask that anyone who was in your community at the time the person was hit by the car to call us instantly. aI am especially keen to hear from anyone who spots an automobile with front end damage and a broken windscreen.a Police say the make or style of the car which struck the man is still unknown. A 25-year-old guy from West Bromwich was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic accident on Saturday.
