Seattle Mariners: Can This Team Certainly be a Contender in 2013?

The way in which good are the Seattle Mariners? In some recoverable format, they are strictly unhealthy. In reality, they may just be better than people believe.

Seattle is 16-19 as we get near the midpoint of May. Certainly not a stellar record, but this quick winning streak would get this team above. 500 for ones season. Then, who is familiar with?

As of May 9, this Mariners were only 5. 5 games behind the Texas Rangers with the American League West. This division has already estimated to be one of ups in addition to downs. Just ask the L . a . Angels.

Despite the lowest run production in the American League West (second-worst around AL), Seattle has won seven for the last 10 games, plus it went 3-2 on the final road trip. These are positive signs.

Obviously, fans ought to be realistic. This team could effortlessly be mediocre all time of year, win 75 games or even less, and continue a good string of disappointing seasons.

When you look with how this team has got performed, there are some what to feel good about. This 26th-ranked. 235 team normal isn't great, but the Mariners have been more productive on crime. Kyle Seager is using a great year, Kendrys Morales is warmup and Michael Morse has provided some much-needed electricity.

Even Justin Smoak in addition to Dustin Ackley are needs to hit better after starting out very cold before you start of the year. Felix Hernandez and Hisashi Iwakuma are generally stellar, and Tom Wilhelmsen is virtually unhittable out of your bullpen.

Obviously there are generally some problems. Despite her great defensive ability, Brendan Ryan has become dreadful at the plate, and Robert Andino hasn't been better.

The Joe Saunders experiment has already established mixed results. Brandon Maurer has looked great at times and like a out of law school at others. Then there is (was) Blake Beavan and additionally Aaron Harang. Let's just say that this back end of the rotation is often a work in progress.

There are real possibilities for the following team. Maybe one of a great deal hyped young pitchers like Taijuan Walker or Danny Hultzen could make their way to Seattle and provide stability in the turn. Perhaps the hot-hitting Computer chip Franklin (via The Seattle Times) can get a call-up and furnish some real offensive production in the shortstop position.

There's much to like about this team, but there are loads of reasons to be cautious with the optimism. More stars can get hurt. Offensive production might plateau. There may be no help coming from the minors anytime soon.

Within the trade deadline, will the Mariners become close enough that management would consider going out and possessing another piece? It has become some time since the Mariners were during that position.

Obviously, it continues to very early by hockey standards. However, this is the year or so when teams start to find yourself in a particular groove. This can be a point in the season where a team like the Mariners can either start to believe, or fall back in a familiar routine.
